Covered bridge

I have been fascinated by covered bridges for decades and my home state of

Pennsylvania had more than it's fair share.

I used to take day trips just to view the bridges near where I lived.

This is a picture of Stonestown Covered Bridge in Pennsylvania;

Confederate Rose

We just returned from South Carolina where the Confederate Rose is in bloom;

not actually a rose but a beautiful Hibiscus. This is a picture I took while vacationing there.

Unfortunately, these stunning bushes don't grow where I live as it gets too cold in N. Carolina.

I love sunflowers and this time of year they seem to be everywhere;

especially popular in home decor.

Even saw some beauties last week in the floral shop at the local super market.

Flowers, my passion!

I fell in love with this painting, Roses, by Joseph DeCamp (1858-1923)

and immediately knew I had to use it for a desktop.

The rose image has been misted, put on a new background

and enhanced with a reflection of the roses.

Hummingbirds

The Hummingbirds are returning to our area;

the males are back and I expect the females to arrive any day.

That's when the feeders will get busy.

I'm using a painting by Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904) which is public domain.

Belted Kingfisher

I saw one of these delightful birds the other day and had to do a desktop in honor of the sighting.

I love these little birds as they sit above the water waiting for a tasty morsel

to make them dive for their meal.

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to our forefathers who molded our country to

provide all United States citizens with Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Very noble ideas that have always worked; maybe not perfectly but they worked.

I was at the beach yesterday and decided I wanted to do a desktop with one of my fall pictures.

This picture was taken on Hatteras Island following a fall storm; the weather was just

breaking and showing some North Carolina blue sky.

Cormorant

Let me introduce you to the Double Crested Cormorant, a "duck wannabe".
Not especially pretty but very interesting.
They are water birds but get water logged and have to perch somewhere
to dry out their wings, thus the pose you see above.

In Loving Memory

This desktop is in loving memory of my mother
who went to her heavenly home on Friday, June 20, 2008.
She was my scotch parent with roots in Sutherland and Ayrshire.
She will be missed but the heritage she passed on will live in our hearts.
